Autonomous robot or demonstration? Questions every video should answer
Read robotics footage without confusing research, human control and purchasable functions: a practical method for buyers.

A robot completes a route in a video. Before asking its price, establish what the footage actually demonstrates. A successful attempt can be interesting without describing a product ready for every home. This explanation separates observations, open questions and purchasing decisions; it does not announce an event that happened yesterday.
Define the limits of autonomy
“Autonomous” becomes useful when linked to a task and its test conditions. Who chooses the destination? Who starts and stops movement? Is the route known? Are objects prepared? Asking these questions does not diminish research. It clarifies which problem has been addressed and which remains open.
The academic Milo paper, submitted to arXiv on 21 July 2026, describes a modified Go2 and states limitations, including road crossing. This is neither news from 15 October nor a listing for a ready-to-buy robotic guide dog. Its value also lies in showing the difference between a research demonstration and the standard robot.
A checklist for the next video
Before interpreting a demonstration as a commercial promise, seek four answers: the configuration used, the operator’s role, environmental conditions and the number of attempts. Leave missing information as an open question. Do not replace it with either the most optimistic or the most alarming assumption.
Also ask whether the video is continuous and whether error-recovery demonstrations exist. Completing a task does not by itself establish failure frequency, required assistance or performance in your environment. These are separate questions requiring different observations.
Turn the demonstration into a buying decision
Return to the exact product: variant, accessories, available software and support. Unitree’s Go2 page distinguishes configurations and notes that some functions require development or human operation. A laboratory’s result does not automatically transfer those capabilities to every robot in the same family.
The final question is practical: “Does the seller document this function on the package I will receive?”. If the answer stays vague, keep the video as a research example and request a demonstration of your use case. Start with the ROBOLERO catalogue and the Go2 variant checklist. Enthusiasm helps exploration; documentation and demonstrations support decisions.
