Launched in November 2025 in China at 7,499 CNY (about €950) and sold outside China at $1,999 (about €1,840; €2,639 incl. VAT from an EU reseller), the Rover X1 is a wheel-leg hybrid designed for the home and outings. It walks at up to 1.8 m/s, carries 3 to 7 kg, follows you and can keep watch over the house. It doesn't have the power or speed of a Unitree, but it is the only consumer model built to carry things. The cheapest overall remains the Go2 Air (~€1,470).

Pros: useful at home, easy to use, officially sold in the EU. Cons: outside China it costs almost twice as much, new brand with a small community, less agile than a pure quadruped.

Best robot dog for content and social media: Xiaomi CyberDog 2

If you care about looks and the "wow" effect on social media, Xiaomi's CyberDog 2 is the most polished: light (8.9 kg), biomimetic design, 19 sensors and the ability to do backflips. It is the choice of universities, research centres and makers. If you really want to build applications — not just use the robot — this is the right version. Unitree does not publish the list price: in Europe it starts at about €7,800 incl. VAT, in the USA at $11,190.

Pros: maximum development freedom, huge community, expandable. Cons: more expensive, requires technical skills, overkill for home use alone.

The professionals: DEEP Robotics X20 and Boston Dynamics Spot

For real work — inspections, surveillance, difficult environments — you move up a class. The DEEP Robotics X20 (on quote; resellers indicate about $114,000, ~€105,000) has IP66 certification, 3D LiDAR, a thermal camera, a 20 kg payload and 2–4 hours of runtime. Boston Dynamics Spot (~€68,500: $74,500 was the 2020 launch price, today on quote only) remains the Western benchmark for reliability, ecosystem and support, but it is designed for companies, not individuals.
