Digit 5 adopts NVIDIA IGX Thor: safety moves into the architecture

Agility Robotics' October 22 compute announcement for Digit 5 raises practical questions about onboard perception, safety and deployment.

On October 22, 2026, Agility Robotics said the general-availability version of Digit 5 will standardize its onboard compute on NVIDIA IGX Thor. This is a platform and safety integration announcement, not evidence that Digit 5 has already obtained independent certification or reached mass deployment.

Why onboard compute matters

Consolidated computing can simplify the technical system that supports perception and robot control. Processing capacity alone, however, cannot prove reliable picking, transport or safe stopping in a busy warehouse.

NVIDIA Halos and inspection

Agility says it is adding NVIDIA Halos components to its proprietary safe-human-detection system. It also plans to participate in a systems inspection lab before final third-party certification. The inspection plan must not be confused with certification already granted.

Availability window

Early access is expected in the first half of 2027, followed by increasing availability over the next six to nine months for manufacturing and logistics operators.

The missing operating metrics

Customers need unassisted task-completion rates, safe-stop performance, uptime, service requirements and data-handling details. The press release does not provide a comparable independent field benchmark.
