Dobot (INFFNI) Rover X1 vs Unitree Go2: which robot dog for a private buyer
If you want a robot dog for the home, one that follows you, carries the shopping and works from your smartphone, the Dobot Rover X1 (sold in Europe under the INFFNI brand) costs $1,999 in the Air version on the INFFNI website and €2,638.80 incl. VAT from a European reseller, with a 2-year warranty in the EU. If you want the real robot dog, faster, with LiDAR and a mature spare-parts network, the Unitree Go2 starts at $1,600 (Air) on the official store and at €2,623 incl. VAT in Italy, but the warranty is 6 months on the Air and 12 on the Pro. Prices verified on 20 September 2026, sources at the end.
In short: the Rover X1 is a smart cart on wheel-legs, made for home and walks, with a long warranty; the Go2 is a 3.5 m/s quadruped, more capable and more widespread, with more spare parts and more documented security flaws.
The two robots at a glance
The Rover X1 is the first consumer product from Dobot, a Shenzhen company known for its collaborative arms: launched in China on 4 November 2025 at 7,499 CNY (about $1,030, TechNode), outside China it is sold under the INFFNI brand in four versions (Air, Pro, Pro Flex, Explorer). It has wheels at the end of its legs: it walks up steps and runs on wheels. It weighs 15 kg (21.5 for the Pro Flex), climbs 30° slopes and 16 cm steps, carries 3–7 kg and follows a person using its camera; the Pro versions have a UWB module for more precise following (inffnitech.com, 20 Sep 2026).
The Unitree Go2 is the most widespread quadruped in the world, on the market since July 2023 in three consumer versions (Air, Pro, X) plus the EDU for programmers: about 15 kg, 360° 4D LiDAR on every version, 2.5 m/s (Air) or 3.5 m/s (Pro), 7–8 kg payload; the Pro and X have voice and a 4G module (unitree.com/go2, 20 Sep 2026). Base version against base version, the Go2 Air costs less than the Rover X1 Air, both at list price and in Italy. Like-for-like on "home" features (reliable following, voice, battery life) the comparison is between the Rover X1 Pro at $2,799 and the Go2 Pro at $2,800: same price, very different robots.

In two lines: the Go2 is almost twice as fast and sees in 3D with its LiDAR; the Rover X1 lasts longer (up to 5 hours on the Pro Flex), rolls on smooth surfaces and is designed to carry things.
Apps and everyday use
The INFFNI ROVER-G app (Shenzhen Dobot Corp, free) pairs over Bluetooth and connects to the robot's hotspot, shows the live video feed, updates the firmware over the air, offers block-based programming (Blockly) and obstacle-avoidance assistance with a depth camera (App Store, 20 Sep 2026). On the Air, which has no 4G module, outside the home the controls only work while your phone stays attached to the hotspot; the Pro and Pro Flex have 4G. The Unitree Go app does the same things and adds conversation with a language model; on the Pro and the X the 4G lets you reach the robot away from Wi-Fi (unitree.com/app/go2, 20 Sep 2026). The Go2 Air does not talk and has no 4G: that is why it costs $1,200 less than the Pro.

The INFFNI warranty is the longest in the category; it excludes falls, immersion and disassembly and does not say where repairs take place or who pays for shipping (inffnitech.com/pages/warranty-policy, 20 Sep 2026). Unitree has a more mature network: an authorised centre in Italy, spare parts online, a huge community. Cybersecurity
The Go2 carries the weight of the UniPwn exploit (September 2025), which gives root privileges over Bluetooth across the Unitree range, and of the telemetry to Chinese servers documented by Alias Robotics; Unitree says it has fixed them, no independent audit has confirmed it (see robots at home: data and security). For the Rover X1 we found no public reports of flaws as of 20 September 2026: it is younger and less studied, not necessarily more secure. For both: separate Wi-Fi network, updates straight away, Bluetooth off when not needed.

The Rover X1 reached Europe in 2026: the used market barely exists. Verdict: which one to buy
Rover X1 if you live in a city or have smooth floors, want a robot that carries the bags and follows the kids to the park, care about a long warranty and don't program. The right version is the Pro (UWB, 2–4 hours): the Air without UWB follows less well and lasts half as long.
Unitree Go2 if you want the real quadruped, go over rough ground, need LiDAR and speed, or plan to resell it. The right version is the Pro: the Air saves $1,200 but gives up voice, 4G and half the warranty; the X costs 60% more for only partial secondary development.

Can the Rover X1 be programmed? All versions have block-based programming in the app; the SDK for development is reserved for the Explorer version ($3,599). On the Go2, development is partial on the X and full only on the EDU.
Who repairs Dobot and Unitree robots in Italy? For Unitree there is Eagle Robots in Perugia, an authorised centre. For the Rover X1 the 2-year warranty is exercised through the seller; Dobot has a European office in Neu-Isenburg (Germany) but does not publish a consumer service centre.
