Go2 Pro will not follow you? Set up ISS 2.0 and the companion remote
Confirm the exact version and accessory
This procedure is for Unitree Go2 Pro with the wearable companion remote and Intelligent Side-follow System 2.0, or ISS 2.0. Unitree's manual distinguishes Pro from Air, which does not support this feature. The small wearable remote is not the larger joystick controller. If it is missing or not paired, no sequence of button presses can repair the problem. Check the robot label, the supplied accessory, app connection and firmware first. The Go2 Pro model page helps identify the version; ROBOLERO guides cover other setup checks.
What side follow actually does
ISS 2.0 follows the person carrying its companion remote. It does not mean the robot can identify and pursue anyone in every setting without that accessory. Unitree states a remote range of more than 30 metres, but that specification is no reason to let the robot leave your sight. CNET's filmed hands-on session shows a Go2 Pro following an operator wearing the remote. One session does not establish reliability on every floor, in a crowd or around unexpected obstacles. Keep an adult operator ready to stop it.
The manual asks users to keep the robot visible and at least two metres from obstacles, crowds, water and complex ground. Rain, wet flooring, gravel and low-grip surfaces are unsuitable. LiDAR is not a collision guarantee: Unitree states that intelligent avoidance supports obstacles in front of the robot only. Use a flat, dry, clear private area, away from stairs, children, animals and loose cables.
Five steps to start
- Power up Go2 Pro on level ground and connect Unitree Go. In its control screen, open *Settings > Motion status adjustment > Side following* and enable it. App labels may change with updates, so check the visible setting on your own phone.
- Clip the companion remote to the right side of your body. Stand on the robot's left, with your torso facing the same direction as the robot. This placement comes directly from the manual. Holding the device in your hand or wearing it on the opposite side changes the test.
- Briefly press the remote's power button and wait for a steady indicator. It starts in joystick mode, so a lit indicator alone does not mean automatic following is active.
- Press M twice to enter slow auto-follow. Unitree specifies a maximum of 1.5 m/s; pressing M twice again switches to the fast mode, stated at up to 3 m/s. These are maker specifications, not ROBOLERO measurements. Begin slowly in a straight line.
- If needed, Unitree's manual says to press L2 twice to enable obstacle avoidance and once to disable it. Check the actual status before moving. Press M once or move the joystick to leave auto-follow and return to manual control.
| What happens | Check first | Safer response |
|---|---|---|
| Following does not start | Pro version, ISS in app, steady remote light | Press M twice while stationary |
| Robot moves to the wrong side | Remote on your right, you on its left | Reset your position and direction |
| Following stops after a command | M once or joystick movement | Stop and verify the mode before restarting |
| App will not drive it | Wearable remote still controlling it | Exit follow and power the remote off |
| Robot nears a side obstacle | Avoidance does not cover every direction | Stop and choose a clearer route |
A repeatable, low-risk test
Walk a few metres on private, open ground. Start with a slow straight pass, then make one wide turn. Note remote placement, battery level, software version and the exact point where follow fails. Change one condition at a time. If movement becomes unexpected, press M once or move the joystick to stop following. Do not lift the powered robot; Unitree warns that it can move unexpectedly. A red fault indicator or unstable stance calls for a stop and support contact. Joint calibration is not a routine fix for a follow-mode problem.
When checking a used Go2 Pro, request one continuous demonstration showing the app setting, wearable remote, start, slow walk, stop and restart. Confirm that the remote is included and the robot really is the Pro version. A marketing clip proves little about the accessory in the unit offered for sale. Our used robot dog guide helps record accessories and condition; it is not a price promise.
