Used Unitree Go1 in 2026: what it's worth and what to check

A used Unitree Go1 in good condition is worth, by Robolero's estimate, between €900 and €1,600: less than a new Go2 Air, which costs $1,600 at list price and €2,623 incl. VAT in Italy. Listings often ask for much more (up to $5,000 on eBay for a Pro, on 20 September 2026), but a Go1 in 2026 is a robot out of production since 2023, with a remote-access backdoor documented in March 2025 and a battery that Unitree no longer sells. It can be bought, and for programmers it remains interesting, but only at a price that reflects these three facts and after a serious test.

What the Go1 is and why it is no longer sold

The Go1 is the quadruped with which Unitree entered the consumer market, unveiled on 9 June 2021 in three versions: Go1 Air at $2,700, Go1 (Pro) at $3,500 and Go1 Edu at $8,500 (IEEE Spectrum, 9 Jun 2021). It weighs 12 kg, runs at up to 2.5 m/s (Air), 3.5 m/s (Pro) and 3.7 m/s (Edu, 5 m/s peak), carries 3–5 kg, has 12 motors and five pairs of fisheye cameras for perception (a single pair on the Air); the Edu carries one or more NVIDIA Jetson modules and force sensors in the feet (unitree.com/go1, 20 Sep 2026).

On 12 July 2023 Unitree unveiled the Go2 in China, from CNY 9,997, with 4D LiDAR as standard and more powerful motors; the international release, from $1,600, is dated 18 July 2023 (PR Newswire). Since then the Go1 has left the stage without an announcement: the technical page still exists, but on the store both versions show as "unavailable" (shop.unitree.com, 20 Sep 2026). The consequences: no manufacturer's warranty on a used one, no new list price to compare against, spare parts only while stocks last.

What a used Go1 is worth today: real listings and estimate

These are asking prices, not sale prices: eBay shows sold items only to registered users and the robots sit in the shop window for months. The only European private listing, €999 for an incomplete Air, is also the only one in line with the market.

The reasoning behind Robolero's estimate is simple. A new Go2 Air costs $1,600 on the store and €2,623 incl. VAT from Eagle Robots (20 Sep 2026): it is faster than the Go1 Air and has LiDAR, a warranty and spare parts. A used Go1 Air cannot be worth more than half of that; a complete Go1 Pro with a healthy battery sits at the top of the range; an Edu is worth more only to programmers, because the open SDK and the Jetson remain useful in a lab, but even there the comparison is with a Go2 EDU at €9,850 excl. VAT (Eagle Robots, 20 Sep 2026) that has a future. The €900–1,600 range applies to units in good condition with a battery that holds at least an hour; box, remote control, second battery and invoice push it up, a swollen battery pushes it below €900. You can value a Go1 for free by entering version, year and battery condition.

The 2025 backdoor: what you need to know before connecting it at home

On 27 March 2025 CVE-2025-2894 was published: researchers Andreas Makris and Kevin Finisterre documented a hidden service in the Go1 firmware, the client of the CloudSail tunnel run by the Chinese company Zhexi, started automatically at power-on and able to open remote access to the robot to anyone holding the service's API key; on board were also the Raspberry Pi's default credentials pi/123. The tunnel's database listed 1,919 Go1s that had connected at least once, including robots on the networks of MIT, Princeton, Carnegie Mellon and Waterloo (CyberInsider, 24 Mar 2025; SecurityWeek, 1 Apr 2025). Unitree revoked the API key two days after the public report, but no update has removed the client or changed the default password (takeonme.org, 27 Mar 2025).

For a used buyer this means three things. First: do not connect the robot to your home Wi-Fi before you have dealt with it. Second: the countermeasures are within reach of anyone who can open a terminal: disable the service (`systemctl disable CSClientDaemon`), remove the `tunnel/` folder from automatic start-up, change the `pi` user's password, use a separate network. Third: in the United States the flaws in Unitree robots (the Department of Defense cites the 2025 UniPwn exploit) are among the reasons the FCC, on 28 July 2026, added foreign-made communicating mobile robots over 2 kg to its Covered List; models already authorised remain legal (IEEE Spectrum, 4 Aug 2026). Battery: the real hidden cost

The Go1 uses a 6,000 mAh (standard) or 9,000 mAh (long range) pack for 1–2 hours of use; IEEE Spectrum, in its 2021 test, spoke of about an hour of running. After three to five years many batteries are at the end of their life, and that is the problem: on the Unitree store the Go1 Battery is listed at $600 (6,000 mAh) and $850 (9,000 mAh) but is "unavailable" in both versions (shop.unitree.com, 20 Sep 2026). Third-party channels remain: QUADRUPED Robotics (Bergheim, Germany) sells a 4,500 mAh replacement battery at €700 excl. VAT and the 6,000 mAh at €1,050 excl. VAT, available immediately (quadruped.de, 20 Sep 2026); on eBay a 4,500 mAh "open box" pack shipped from Turkey costs $775 (20 Sep 2026).

If the battery needs replacing, the replacement alone is worth between half and all of the robot's price: that is why the runtime test is the most important item on the checklist.

Spare parts, repairs and service

The GO-M8010-6 joint motor, the Go1's, is still listed and available at $369 (shop.unitree.com, 20 Sep 2026); feet, remote controls and cases circulate on the used market (eBay, 20 Sep 2026). In Italy the authorised Unitree centre is Eagle Robots in Perugia, "the only authorised service centre for Unitree robots and humanoids" (eaglerobots.com, 20 Sep 2026): ask first whether they still accept Go1s and at what rates, because out of warranty every job is chargeable. Test checklist before you pay

1. Version and serial number. Air, Pro or Edu change the value: the Air has a single pair of cameras, the Edu has the Jetsons. Compare the serial on the label with the invoice, if there is one.
2. Timed runtime. Battery charged, 20 minutes of continuous walking: check the remaining percentage in the app and project it. Below an estimated hour of runtime, deduct the cost of a battery (€700–1,050 plus VAT) from the price.
3. Battery in plain sight. Take it out: no swelling, clean contacts, no smell. Ask how many batteries there are and whether the charger is original.
4. Motors and joints. Have the robot walk, trot and get up: jerks, metallic noises or one motor hotter than the others after ten minutes mean wear. A new motor costs $369 plus shipping.
5. Feet and shell. The feet wear out and can be replaced; a scratched shell is not a problem, damaged screws are: they indicate unauthorised opening.
6. Remote control, charger, box. A complete kit is worth more and resells better; the German €999 listing had none of them.
7. Backdoor and password. Ask the seller to show you, on a network that is not yours, that the CloudSail service is disabled and that the `pi` password is no longer `123`. If they don't know what you are talking about, you will do the work yourself before connecting it at home.
8. Firmware and app. Check that the robot connects to the app and that walking, modes and cameras respond: what you see is what you will get.
9. Provenance. A Go1 that arrived from the United States without customs documents resells badly; one retired by a university with an invoice is the best provenance.
10. Price. Compare it with the €900–1,600 range and with new: above €1,600, the same money buys you a new imported Go2 Air, or nearly one from an Italian reseller.

When it makes sense and when it doesn't

It makes sense for programmers who want a Unitree platform with an open SDK for little (an Edu under €1,600 with the Jetsons is a bargain for a lab or a student), for collectors and for anyone who already has a Go1 and is looking for parts.

It doesn't make sense for anyone looking for their first robot dog for home or for videos: the new Go2 Air costs $1,600 at list price, has LiDAR, a warranty and spare parts, and still has years of updates ahead of it. Frequently asked questions

How much is a used Unitree Go1 worth? By Robolero's estimate, between €900 and €1,600 in good condition; the only European private listing seen on 20 September 2026 asked €999 for an incomplete Air. eBay listings from the United States ask $2,500–5,000, more than a new Go2.

Is the Go1 still in production? No. The Go2 replaced it in July 2023 and on the Unitree store the Air and Pro versions show as unavailable (20 Sep 2026). The technical page is still online.

Has the Go1 backdoor been fixed? Half-way: Unitree revoked the CloudSail service's API key in March 2025, but the client is still in the firmware and the default credentials pi/123 have not been changed by an update. It has to be sorted out by hand before connecting the robot to your home network.

How much does the Go1 battery cost? On the Unitree store $600 (6,000 mAh) and $850 (9,000 mAh), but unavailable as of 20 September 2026. From third parties: €700 excl. VAT for a 4,500 mAh and €1,050 excl. VAT for a 6,000 mAh (QUADRUPED Robotics, Germany).

Used Go1 or new Go2 Air? For home, videos and a first purchase, the new Go2 Air: $1,600 list price, LiDAR, warranty, spare parts. The Go1 makes sense for programmers (Edu) or collectors, and only under €1,600.
